Kan. Admin. Regs. § 9-7-12 - Buffalo or bison
(a) Except as
provided in subsection (b), each buffalo or bison that enters the state of
Kansas shall be accompanied by an official health certificate and shall have
tested negative for brucellosis within the preceding 30 days, if the buffalo or
bison meets one of the following criteria.
(1) It is a non-vaccinated female that is 18
months of age or older.
(2) It is
a vaccinated female that is 24 months of age or older.
(3) It is a bull that is 12 months of age or
older.
(b)
(1) Before any buffalo or bison from the
greater Yellowstone area is imported into the state of Kansas, the veterinarian
in the state of origin who issues the health certificate shall obtain a permit
from the Kansas animal health department. "Greater Yellowstone area" means
Yellowstone national park and a 20-mile zone surrounding Yellowstone national
park.
(2) Buffalo or bison
originating from free-roaming herds located in the greater Yellowstone area
shall be prohibited from entering the state of Kansas.
(3) Each buffalo and bison entering the state
from the greater Yellowstone area that is owned, that is eligible for
brucellosis testing, and that did not originate from a free-roaming herd shall
test negative within 30 days before entry into Kansas and shall be quarantined
at the destination for a re-test at the owner's expense no sooner than 45 days
and no later than 150 days from the date of entry.
