01-017 C.M.R. ch. 9, § 4 - Performance Eligibility
1. Two and Three
year old trotters and pacers will be eligible to start in any of their stake
races of their season if they show a satisfactory charted performance line, or
better, as indicated by the chart below. The horse must have raced on gait with
track allowances at the time of the draw.

Two and three year old trotters and pacers that made breaks in the past three
consecutive starts on a good or fast track and failed to finish first, second
or third must go a qualifying race. Breaks caused by equipment failure or
interference will be excused.

Two and three year old trotters and pacers failing to meet qualifying time in
two consecutive races on a good or fast track must re-qualify, unless the horse
makes a break, or there is interference or equipment failure in one of the two
races.
4. All Sire Stakes horses
must have a charted line in which the horse met the Sire Stakes qualifications
within 45 days of its next programmed start.
5. All entries in Maine Standardbred Breeders
Stake races must show individual times.
6. Two year olds are ineligible by reason of
participation in a medication program. Any 2 year old horse that has
participated in a Furosemide program at any race meet whether that race was in
the state of Maine or another jurisdiction is not eligible in any Maine
Standardbred Breeders Stake race.
7. Three year old horses eligible to
participate in the Maine Sire Stakes Program are allowed into the furosemide
program under the conditions set forth in Chapter 11.
8. Two and Three year old trotters and pacers
may be placed on the Stewards List for an extended break with the intent of
qualifying without complying with Chapter 7, Section 60.

State regulations are updated quarterly; we currently have two versions available. Below is a comparison between our most recent version and the prior quarterly release. More comparison features will be added as we have more versions to compare.
1. Two year old colt and filly trotters will not be eligible to start in any stake race of their two year old season unless they show a satisfactory charted performance line of 2:15 or better on gait with no track allowances at the time of draw .
2. Three year old colt and filly trotters will not be eligible to start in any stake race of their three year old season unless they show a satisfactory charted performance line of 2:12 or better on gait with no track allowance at the time of draw .
3. Two year old colt and filly pacers will not be eligible to start in any stake race of their two year old season unless they show a satisfactory charted performance line of 2:10 or better on gait with no track allowances at the time of draw .
4. Three year old colt and filly pacers will not be eligible to start in any stake race of their three year old season unless they show a satisfactory chartered performance line of 2:07 or better on gait with no track allowance at the time of draw .
