65- 407 C.M.R. ch. 288, § 1 - PURPOSE
The purposes of the Maine Universal Service Fund (MUSF or Fund) implemented pursuant to this Chapter are:
A.
Promotion and Encouragement of
Universal Service and Reasonable Rates. To ensure that provider of last
resort (POLR) telephone service is available to consumers throughout all areas
of the State at reasonably comparable rates by providing support from the Fund
to non-price cap incumbent local exchange carriers, or any successor entities,
that provide POLR service; and
B.
Other Supported Uses. To provide support for other services,
functions or activities pursuant to authorization provided in
35-A M.R.S.
§7104(5), (6), and
(7).
