Md. Code Regs. 09.10.01.58 - Weighing In
A. After a race
has been run, the jockey shall ride promptly to the area designated by the
association to dismount and report to the clerk of the scales to be weighed
in.
B. If a jockey is prevented
from riding a mount to the area designated by the association to dismount
because of an accident or illness, either to the jockey or the horse, the
jockey may walk or be carried to the scales, or the jockey may be excused by
the stewards from weighing in.
C.
Except by permission of the stewards, a jockey, upon returning to the area
designated by the association to dismount, shall unsaddle the horse the jockey
has ridden, and no other individual may touch the horse, except by its bridle,
until the jockey has removed all the equipment which was included in the weight
the horse was assigned to carry.
D.
Absent the permission of the stewards, an individual may not assist a jockey in
removing the jockey's equipment from a horse.
E. An individual may not throw a covering
over a horse at the place of dismounting until the jockey has removed the
equipment that was included in the weight the horse was assigned to
carry.
F. A jockey may not, before
weighing in, willfully touch an individual or thing, other than equipment that
was included in the weight the horse was assigned to carry.
G. A jockey shall, in weighing in, carry over
the scales all pieces of equipment with which the jockey weighed out.
H. A jockey shall weigh in with the same
weight as that with which the jockey weighed out, and, if short by more than 1
pound, the jockey's horse shall be disqualified.
I. If a horse carries more than 2 pounds over
its proper or declared weight, its jockey shall be punished unless the stewards
are satisfied that this excess of weight is inadvertently caused by
precipitation or mud.
