310 CMR, § 40.0931 - Purpose
Categories of groundwater and soil have been established by the Department for use in the characterization of risk posed by disposal sites. The documentation of a Risk Characterization shall support the categorization of the groundwater and soils at the disposal site.
(1) The groundwater and soil categories shall
be used to determine the applicability of the groundwater and soil standards
listed in
310
CMR 40.0974(2),
40.0975(6)(a), (b) and
(c), and
40.0985(6)
when Methods 1 or 2 are used to characterize risk.
(2) The groundwater categories shall be used
to identify applicable or suitably analogous standards as described in
310
CMR 40.0993(3), when Method
3 is used to characterize risk.
(3)
The groundwater and soil categories shall be considered in determining the need
for Activity and Use Limitations as part of a Permanent or Temporary
Solution.
