Mich. Admin. Code R. 281.3111 - Electrical equipment
Rule 111.
(1)
Permanently installed electrical appliances, equipment, and fixtures used on a
vessel shall be designed so that the current-carrying parts of the device are
effectively insulated from exposed metal parts by an electrical insulating
material suitable for use in damp or wet locations.
(2) All permanently installed electrical
appliances, equipment, and fixtures shall be properly connected to the vessel's
electrical grounding system.
(3)
All electrical appliances, equipment, and fixtures installed or used in
machinery spaces or other areas where flammable vapors may be present shall be
designed, enclosed, or protected to prevent ignition of flammable
vapors.
(4) Switches, circuit
breakers, and fuse boxes or blocks used on a vessel shall be approved by
underwriters laboratories for marine use, where available, or shall be a type
commonly manufactured for use on vessels. These devices shall have suitable
protection to prevent accidental shorting.
