Mich. Admin. Code R. 333.5033 - Exemptions
Rule 33.
(1)
Unless specifically covered elsewhere in these rules, electronic equipment that
produces radiation incidental to its operation for other purposes is exempt
from the registration and notification requirements of this part if the dose
equivalent rate averaged over an area of 10 square centimeters does not exceed
5 microsieverts (0.5 mrem) per hour at 5 centimeters from any accessible
surface of the equipment. The production, testing, or factory servicing of the
equipment shall not be exempt.
(2)
Radiation machines that are electrically disconnected pending sale, transfer of
ownership, or destructive disposal or that are made inoperable are exempt from
the requirements of this part. An inoperable radiation machine is one that
cannot be energized when connected to a power supply without repair or
modification.
(3) Domestic
television receivers and video display monitors are exempt from the
requirements of this part.
(4)
Electron microscopes are exempt from this part if the instrument is not capable
of exceeding an operating potential of 50 kilovolts.
