Mich. Admin. Code R. 400.8740 - Manufacturer's rated seating capacity; restraint devices; safety belts
Rule 740.
(1) Each
child transported shall be seated according to the manufacturer's rated seating
capacity and properly restrained by a passenger restraint device pursuant to
sections 710d and 710e of the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL
257.710d and
257.710e.
(2) Passenger restraint devices, as required
by subrule (1) of this rule, are not required for children transported on a
school bus or a multifunction school activity bus.
(3) Each restraint device must be properly
anchored to the vehicle seat and used according to the manufacturer's
specifications.
(4) Allowing 2 or
more children to share a seat belt or restraint device is prohibited.
(5) The driver of a motor vehicle and all
adult passengers shall be seated according to the manufacturer's rated seating
capacity and properly restrained by safety belts when the motor vehicle is in
motion.
(6) All safety belts and
restraint devices used while transporting children and adults must be in good
working condition.

Rule 740.
