Mich. Admin. Code R. 408.10575h - Suspension wire ropes and rope connections
Rule 575h.
(1)
Each specific installation shall use suspension wire ropes or combination cable
and connections that are in compliance with the specifications recommended by
the manufacturer of the hoisting machine that is used. Connections shall be
capable of developing not less than 80% of the rated breaking strength of the
wire rope.
(2) Each suspension rope
shall have a design factor of not less than 10. The design factor is the ratio
of the rated strength of the suspension wire rope to the rated working load and
shall be calculated using the following formula:

(3) Suspension wire rope grade shall be at
least improved plow steel or equivalent.
(4) Suspension wire ropes shall be sized to
be in compliance with the required design factor, but shall not be less than
5/16 of an inch (7.94 mm) in diameter.
(5) A reverse bend in wire rope shall not be
permitted.
(6) A bend radius in
wire rope shall not be less than 20 times the wire rope diameter.
(7) Wire rope shall be inspected and
maintained as specified in the provisions of R 408.10582.
