Mich. Admin. Code R. 408.10579 - Periodic inspections and tests
Rule 579.
(1)
Related building supporting structures shall undergo periodic inspection by a
competent person at intervals of not more than 12 months.
(2) All parts of the equipment, including
control systems, shall be inspected and, where necessary, tested by a competent
person at intervals specified by the manufacturer and supplier, but not more
than 12-month intervals, to determine that equipment parts are in safe
operating condition. Parts that are subject to wear, such as wire ropes,
bearings, gears, and governors, shall be inspected or tested to determine that
they have not worn to such an extent as to affect the safe operation of the
installation.
(3) The owner shall
keep a certification record of each inspection and test required. The record
shall include all of the following information:
(a) The date of the inspection.
(b) The signature of the person who performed
the inspection.
(c) The number, or
other identifier, of the building support structure and equipment that was
inspected. This certification record shall be kept readily available for review
by the director of the Michigan department of licensing and regulatory affairs
or his or her representative and by the employer.
(4) Working platforms and their components
shall be inspected by the employer for visible defects before every use and
after each occurrence that could affect the platform's structural
integrity.
