Rule 501a.
Section R101.2 of the code is amended to read as follows:
R101.2. Scope. The provisions of the
Michigan residential code for 1- and 2-family dwellings shall apply to the
construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair,
equipment, use and occupancy, location, removal and demolition of detached 1-
and 2-family dwellings and townhouses not more than 3 stories above grade plane
in height with a separate means of egress and their accessory structures.
Exceptions:
1.
Live/work units complying with the requirements of Section 419 of the Michigan
building code may be built as 1- and 2-family dwellings or townhouses. Fire
suppression required by Section 419.5 of the Michigan building code when
constructed under the Michigan residential code for 1- and 2-family dwellings
shall conform to Section P290 4.
2.
Owner-occupied bed and breakfast and board and room facilities may be
constructed in accordance with sections 4b and 13c of the Stille-DeRossett-Hale
single state construction code act, 1972 PA 230, MCL 125.1504b and MCL
125.1513c.
