Mich. Admin. Code R. 408.41934 - Electric-powered tools
Rule 1934.
(1)
An electric-powered tool, such as a saw, drill motor, and router, shall be
grounded. This requirement does not pertain to ungrounded electrical systems.
Ground fault circuit interrupters shall be used with ungrounded electrical
systems.
(2) Subrule (1) of this
rule does not apply to a double insulated electric power tool labeled with
underwriters laboratory or other nationally recognized testing laboratory
approval for double-insulated tools.
(3) A portable, power-driven circular saw
shall be equipped with a guard above and below the base plate or shoe. The
upper guard shall cover the saw to the depth of the teeth, except for the
minimum arc required to allow proper retraction and contact with the work. When
the saw is withdrawn from the work, the lower guard shall return automatically
and instantly to the covered position.
(4) The trailing cord of a portable powered
tool shall not be used to hoist or lower the tool.
(5) A powered tool shall be disconnected from
its power source when it is serviced or when the point of operation device is
changed by a device or tool.
(6)
When not grounded or double-insulated, an electrically powered hand tool used
for the installation of power transmission and distribution systems shall be
connected to the power supply by means of an isolating transformer or other
isolated power supply.
