A. The following documents are related to the
International Classification of Diseases diagnostic codes.
(1) The International Classification of
Diseases, Clinical Modification, 9th revision (ICD-9-CM), and updates through
2014. It is no longer updated because it has been replaced by ICD-10-CM. It is
published by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and may be accessed on the CMS Web
site. It is available through the Minitex interlibrary loan system.
(2) The International Classification of
Diseases, Clinical Modification, 10th revision (ICD-10-CM), and annual updates.
It is subject to frequent change. It is published by the World Health
Organization (WHO), and may be accessed on the WHO Web site. It is also
available through the Minitex interlibrary loan system.
(3) The General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs)
and annual updates, which is a tool for the conversion of codes between
ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM. It is subject to frequent change. GEMs was jointly
developed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention agencies. GEMs may be accessed on the CMS Web site. It is also
available through the Minitex interlibrary loan system.
