Storage of Medications, as outlined directly above, in the facility shall be in an area to measure not less than 100 square feet of space. This storage area is to be designated as the Medication Preparation Area/Room, and is to have the following personality:
1. Medication Refrigerator (for storage of
drugs and biological);
2. Hand
washing lavatory with hot water capability, and paper towel
dispenser;
3. Medication
Preparation Area/Room to have self-closing self-locking door(s);
4. The air temperature in the Medication
Preparation Area/Room is not to exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit or fall below 50
degrees Fahrenheit;
5. Medication
Preparation Area/Room to have counter-top space provided for medication
preparation; and
6. The facility
must provide separately locked, permanently affixed compartments for storage of
controlled drugs listed in Schedule II of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse
Prevention and Control Act of 1970 and other drugs subject to abuse, except
when the facility uses single unit package drug distribution systems in which
the quantity stored is minimal and a missing dose can be readily
detected.
