23 Miss. Code. R. 214-1.8 - Generic Mandates for Prescription Drugs
Mississippi law requires that the Division of Medicaid does not reimburse for a brand name drug if an equally effective generic equivalent is available and the generic equivalent is the least expensive.
A. Generic drugs classified as non-preferred
by the Division of Medicaid require prior authorization.
B. In the absence of a specific request for
the brand name drug from the prescribing provider to the pharmacist, the
pharmacist must follow standard practice guidelines for the State of
Mississippi and fill the prescription with the generic equivalent unless the
branded agent is preferred and the generic agent is non-preferred.
C. Prior authorization (PA) is required for
any brand name multiple source drug that has a generic equivalent except Narrow
Therapeutic Index (NTI) drugs as defined by the Division of Medicaid.
