Ohio Admin. Code 3301-24-28 - Interim license
(A)
As used in this
rule, "core subject area" has the same meaning as in section
3319.074 of the Revised
Code.
(B)
Beginning July 1, 2019, the Ohio department of
education shall issue a one-year license valid for teaching a core subject
area, excluding intervention specialists, in a public or chartered nonpublic
school in any of grades pre-kindergarten to twelve. The license may be renewed
one time. The department shall not issue a license under this rule that is
valid on or after July 1, 2021.
(C)
The department
shall issue an initial license under this section at the request and
recommendation of the superintendent of the employing school district or the
governing body of the employing school to an individual who meets the following
conditions:
(1)
Has a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher
education;
(2)
Has at least two years of teaching experience in any of
grades pre-kindergarten to twelve;
(3)
Successfully
completes an examination prescribed by the state board of education in the
subject area that will be taught;
(4)
Has not
previously held a provisional license, resident educator license, alternative
resident educator or professional educator license.
(D)
To renew a
license issued under this section, the applicant shall provide to the
department verification of one of the following:
(1)
The applicant's
enrollment in an educator preparation program at an institution of higher
education approved under section
3333.048 of the Revised
Code;
(2)
The applicant's progress toward completing a training
institute described in division (C)(2) of section
3319.26 of the Revised Code to
qualify for an alternative resident educator license;
(3)
The applicant's
progress in completing coursework determined by the department to be necessary
to qualify for a teaching license issued under section
3319.22 of the Revised
Code.
(E)
An individual issued a license under this section, upon
expiration of the license, may apply for a resident educator license or
professional educator license issued under section
3319.22 of the Revised Code or
an alternative resident educator license issued under section
3319.26 of the Revised Code,
provided the individual has completed all requirements for the applicable
license.
