Behavior support services shall be proactive,
recovery-oriented, individualized, and designed to facilitate positive
alternatives to challenging behavior, as well as to assist the individual in
developing adaptive and functional living skills. All providers shall:
(1) Develop and implement individual behavior
support strategies, based on a functional or other clinically appropriate
assessment of challenging behavior.
(2) Document the behavior support strategies
and measures for tracking progress as a behavior support plan in the service
plan.
(3) Establish a framework
that assures individualized positive behavior support practices throughout the
program and articulates a rationale consistent with the philosophies supported
by the Division, including the Division's Trauma-informed Services
Policy.
(4) Obtain informed consent
from the parent or guardian, when applicable, in the use of behavior support
strategies and communicate both verbally and in writing the information to the
individual and guardian in a language understood by the individual and in a
developmentally appropriate manner.
(5) Establish outcome-based tracking methods
to measure the effectiveness of behavior support strategies in:
(a) Reducing or eliminating the use of
emergency safety interventions; and
(b) Increasing positive behavior.
(6) Require all program staff to
receive annual training in Collaborative Problem Solving, Positive Behavior
Support or other Evidence-based Practice to promote positive behavior
support.
(7) Review and update
behavior support policies, procedures, and practices annually.
