Policies and objectives for fish management in Deschutes River from Wickiup Dam to Bend (North Canal Dam) including the tributaries Fall and Spring Rivers of the upper Deschutes River Subbasin.
(1) Policies for fish management in Deschutes
River from Wickiup Dam to Bend (North Canal Dam) including the tributaries Fall
and Spring Rivers:
(a) Mountain whitefish
shall be managed for natural production consistent with the Featured Species
Management Alternative for trout;
(b) Rainbow and redband trout shall be
managed for natural and hatchery production consistent with the Featured
Species Management Alternative for trout;
(c) Brown trout shall be managed for natural
production consistent with the Featured Species management alternative for
trout;
(d) Kokanee and brook trout
shall be managed for natural production consistent with the Basic Yield
Management Alternative for trout.
(2) Objectives for fish management in
Deschutes River from Wickiup Dam to Bend (North Canal Dam) including the
tributaries Fall and Spring Rivers:
(a)
Maintain genetic diversity, adaptiveness, and abundance of redband trout and
mountain whitefish;
(b) Provide
diverse angling opportunities for a non-consumptive fishery on redband trout
and a consumptive fishery on hatchery rainbow trout, mountain whitefish and
naturally-produced brown trout, kokanee, and brook trout above Benham Falls,
including Fall River and Spring rivers; provide a consumptive fishery for
redband and brown trout, kokanee, and mountain whitefish below Benham
Falls;
(c) Protect, enhance, and
restore trout and whitefish habitat;
(d) Maintain and improve access to the
Deschutes between Wickiup Dam and Bend, Fall River, and Spring River by boat
and bank anglers.
