6 Pa. Code § 11.171 - Protective devices and prohibited practices
(a) The use of restraints, seclusion and
aversive conditioning is prohibited.
(b) Protective devices, such as helmets,
mitts and muffs, may be used to prevent self-injury on an interim basis not to
exceed 3 months after a client is admitted to a center. When they are used, the
following apply:
(1) The device shall be
checked for proper fit by a staff person at least every 15 minutes.
(2) The client's physical needs shall be met
promptly.
(3) The device shall be
removed completely for at least 10 minutes during every 2 hour period it is
used.
(4) The client shall receive
training aimed at eliminating or reducing the need for the device.
(5) The center shall document compliance with
paragraphs (1)-(4).
