Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0940-03-09-.11 - BEHAVIORAL CRITERIA FOR RELEASE
(1) Behavioral
criteria for release from isolation, mechanical restraint or physical holding
restraint must be specified by a licensed practitioner who may order the use of
isolation or mechanical restraint or physical holding restraint. In the absence
of a licensed practitioner, the behavioral criteria must be specified by a
licensed practical nurse, a registered nurse or by mental health personnel with
a minimum of a bachelor's degree or two (2) years of full time equivalent
experience in a mental health inpatient or mental health residential treatment
facility. The behavioral criteria must be communicated to the service recipient
as soon as possible during the isolation, mechanical restraint or physical
holding restraint procedure and documented in the service recipient's record.
Behavioral criteria for release must identify the behaviors necessary to no
longer justify the use of isolation, mechanical restraint, or physical holding
restraint. The isolation, mechanical restraint, or physical holding restraint
must be terminated as soon as the behavioral criteria for release have been
met.
