Utah Admin. Code R909-2-7 - Axle Provisions
(1) No more than
three fixed axles may be allowed in any truck and trailer
combination.
(2) Vehicles with
variable load axles are limited as follows:
(a) retractable or variable load suspension
axles installed after January 1990 must be self-steering, provided however,
variable load suspension axles that are within 60 inches of a drive axle or are
within 60 inches of a trailer axle, need not be self-steering;
(b) non-divisible loads may be exempt from
these restrictions upon written approval from the division;
(c) no axle in a group with a retractable or
VLS axle may exceed legal or bridge formula weight requirements, or the
manufacturer's tire rating; and
(d)
controls for raising or lowering retractable or VLS axles may be located in the
cab of the power unit. The pressure regulator valve must be positioned outside
of the cab and be inaccessible from the driver's compartment.
