053-5 Wyo. Code R. §§ 5-11 - Safety Procedures for Welding, Cutting and Brazing
(a) Welding,
cutting and brazing shall not be done in the presence of explosive gas or
fumes, or near combustible materials, except when performed in compliance with
1910.252 (d) of the Wyoming Occupational Health and Safety 1910-General Rules
and Regulations.
(b) Proper
protective hoods and glasses shall be worn by the welder.
(c) Fire extinguishers shall be provided for
welding operations as required by Chapter 4, Section
6.(i). of these rules and
regulations.
(d) Compressed gas
cylinders shall be stored in a well protected, well ventilated location, at
least 20 feet from combustible materials. Cylinders should be stored in
definitely assigned places away from elevators, stairs or gangways. Assigned
storage spaces shall be located where cylinders will not be knocked over or
damaged by passing or falling objects, or subject to tampering by unauthorized
persons. Cylinders shall not be kept in unventilated enclosures, such as
lockers and cupboards.
(i) Cylinders shall be
secured in an upright position;
(ii) Cylinders should be separated in storage
as to full and empty cylinders and shall be separated as contents, either by a
distance of 20 feet or by a non-combustible barrier at least five feet (5')
high having a fire-resistance rating of at least one-half hour;
(iii) Cylinders shall be handled carefully to
prevent dropping;
(iv) Cylinders
shall be transported with gauges removed and caps in place, except cylinders in
use on welding trucks or carts in the work area.
(e) Oxygen cylinders, and all attachments
thereto, shall be kept free of all grease and oil and other
hydrocarbons.
