blue flu

Blue flu is a euphemistic term referring to a bargaining tactic in which law enforcement officers call in sick en masse to circumvent prohibitions against police strikes . The District of Columbia, for example, criminalizes organized police strikes . In light of such laws, police officers have historically used blue flu as a substitute tactic to protest labor conditions or policy changes.
