dispossess

  1. Dispossess means to put a person out of possession of something, such as real property​. For example, the government can dispossess a person of their property for failure to pay property taxes. 
  2. When used as a verb, it can also mean to abandon ownership of a building or other property, mainly because it was a bad investment.
