Inalienable means something that is not transferable or that is impossible to take away. Every constitution provides for fundamental rights which are inalienable rights. For example, the California Constitution's Inalienable Rights Clause provides that “[a]ll people are by nature free and independent and have inalienable rights.” As such, according to the Constitution of California freedom of a person is a right that is impossible to take away.
