nonparty

Nonparty means a person or organization that is not directly involved in the litigation or contracting as a party. The person who enters into a contract, is a party to the contract, and the person who brings and has brought a lawsuit is a party to the lawsuit, i.e., the plaintiff or defendant. In contrast, nonparty is a subject who is not the above-mentioned parties in a legal relationship; however, a nonparty may still participate in legal proceedings, have rights or obligations, and be liable in some way.
