Ariz. Admin. Code § R3-2-409 - Rabies Vaccines for Animals
A. All animals in Arizona vaccinated against
rabies shall be vaccinated as prescribed in the NASPHV Compendium of Animal
Rabies Control.
B. A person who is
not a licensed veterinarian may be certified as a rabies vaccinator by a
licensed veterinarian after completing the approved rabies-vaccinator
curriculum. Initial certification shall be valid for one year and renewals
after the first year shall be valid for two years. Each renewal shall only be
granted upon completion of the current rabies-vaccinator curriculum.
C. Anti-rabies vaccines may be administered
under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian or by a Certified Rabies
Vaccinator to animals on the premises of shelters before release.
D. Duties and responsibilities of the
Certified Rabies Vaccinator are to:
1. Abide
by all local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the
operation of a shelter, including those laws and regulations governing
possession and use of anti-rabies vaccine.
2. Comply with the Compendium of Animal
Rabies Prevention and Control, including storage of anti-rabies vaccine at the
required temperature, and administration of anti-rabies vaccine in an aseptic
manner that meets the current standards of veterinary practice.
3. Refer for appropriate treatment domestic
animals that experience an adverse event to a licensed veterinarian; and report
the adverse event to the supervising veterinarian and the vaccine
manufacturer.
4. Procure
anti-rabies vaccine through the state veterinary license number of the
supervising veterinarian.
5. A
Rabies Certificate must be completed in full for every vaccinated domestic
animal, shall include the legible name of the Certified Rabies Vaccinator, and
shall be signed by the Certified Rabies Vaccinator or supervising
veterinarian.
