Fla. Admin. Code Ann. R. 64E-5.805 - Shielding and Safety Design Requirements
(1) A radiological physicist, as defined in
Rule 64E-5.501, F.A.C., shall be
consulted in the design of each particle accelerator installation and shall be
responsible for specification of barrier materials and thicknesses. Plans and
specifications, along with assumptions and calculations on which the shielding
design is based, shall be filed with the Department.
(2) Each particle accelerator installation
shall be provided with such primary and secondary barriers as are necessary to
assure compliance with Rules
64E-5.304 and
64E-5.312, F.A.C.
(3) A qualified person, as defined in Rule
64E-5.501, F.A.C., not
necessarily the consultant involved in the design, shall be engaged to perform
a radiation survey of the facility when the accelerator is first capable of
producing radiation, and such survey shall include measurements of all types of
radiation produced under all modes of operation at maximum operating
potential.
