Mich. Admin. Code R. 408.11281 - Resistance welding generally
Rule 1281.
(1)
An inspection shall be made of a resistance welding machine not less than
yearly and records maintained of the findings and action taken. In addition,
the operator shall report any defects to his or her supervisor. A defect which
could cause injury shall be repaired before the machine is placed in
operation.
(2) Each resistance
welding operation shall be analyzed and safeguards and personal protective
equipment shall be used where a hazard is found.
(3) The operator of a resistance welding
machine and nearby employees shall be protected from flying sparks by shields,
curtains, goggles, or a combination of a face shield and safety glasses as
prescribed in
R 408.11211.
(4) A resistance welding machine shall be
installed by a qualified employee under the direction of a licensed electrician
or supervised by a welding engineer.
(5) A disconnect switch, circuit breaker, or
circuit interrupter shall be installed on or near the machine so that power can
be shut off and locked out when the machine needs servicing.
(6) A pair of ignitron tubes used in
resistance welding equipment shall be equipped with a thermal protection
switch. When used in a series connected water line, a single switch shall be
sufficient if related to the downstream tube.
(7) Controls for automatic, air, or hydraulic
clamps and resistance machines shall be located or guarded to prevent
accidental activation.
(8) A foot
control for a resistance welder, other than that used to apply weld pressure,
shall be guarded to prevent accidental activation.
