Utah Admin. Code R277-704-1 - Authority and Purpose
(1) This rule is
authorized by:
(a) Utah Constitution Article
X, Section 3 which vests general control and supervision over public education
in the Board;
(b) Subsection
53E-3-401(4),
which allows the Board to make rules to execute the Board's duties and
responsibilities under the Utah Constitution and state;
(c) Section
53E-3-505, which directs the
Board to work with financial and economic experts and private and non-profit
entities to develop and integrate financial and economic literacy and skills
into the public school curriculum at all appropriate levels.
(2) The purpose of this rule is:
(a) to provide funds appropriated by the
Legislature to develop and integrate financial and economic literacy concepts
effectively into the core curriculum in various programs and at various grade
levels;
(b) to provide for educator
professional development using business and community expertise;
(c) to provide curriculum resources and
assessments for financial and economic literacy;
(d) to provide simple and consistent
messaging to students that becomes part of the core curriculum that reinforces
the importance of financial and economic literacy for students and parents;
and
(e) to help students and
parents to locate and use school and community resources to improve financial
and economic literacy among students and families.
