Utah Admin. Code R414-70-2 - Definitions
The following definitions apply to this rule:
(1) "Durable medical equipment" (DME)" means
items primarily and customarily used to serve a medical purpose and are not
generally beneficial to an individual in the absence of a disability, illness,
or injury, can withstand repeated use, and can be reusable or
removable.
(2) "Durable medical
equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS)" means the items
covered under the provisions of this rule.
(3) "Orthotic Device" means an orthopedic
appliance or apparatus used to support, align, prevent, or correct deformities
or to improve the function of movable parts of the body.
(4) "Prosthetic device" means a replacement,
corrective, or supportive device to artificially replace a missing portion of
the body, prevent or correct physical deformity or malfunctions, including
promotion of adaptive functioning, or support a weak or deformed part of the
body.
(5) "Supplies" means items
that are consumable, disposable, or cannot withstand repeated use by more than
one individual and is required to address an individual medical disability,
illness, or injury.
