Utah Admin. Code R432-100-21 - Respiratory Care Services
(1) A person
authorized by the hospital administrator shall provide administrative direction
of respiratory care services.
(2)
(a) A member of the medical staff who has the
responsibility and authority for the overall direction of respiratory care
services shall direct the respiratory care service.
(b) When the scope of services warrants, a
technical director who is registered or certified by the National Board For
Respiratory Therapy Incorporated, or has the equivalent education, training,
and experience shall supervise the respiratory care services.
(c) The technical director shall inform
physicians about the use and potential hazards in the use of any respiratory
care equipment.
(3)
(a) The responsible licensed practitioner
shall provide respiratory care services to patients in accordance with a
written prescription that specifies the type, frequency, and duration of the
treatment; and when appropriate, the type and dose of medication, the type of
diluent, and the oxygen concentration.
(b) The licensee shall have equipment to
perform any pulmonary function study or blood-gas analysis.
(c) The licensee shall ensure availability of
resuscitation, ventilatory, and oxygenation support equipment in accordance
with the needs of the patient population served.
