Utah Admin. Code R432-12-19 - Ventilation
(1) The licensee shall ensure each room and
area in the small health care facility provides for positive ventilation that
includes:
(a) natural window ventilation for
non-sensitive areas and resident rooms that may be used when weather permits
and mechanical ventilation is provided for interior areas and during periods of
temperature extremes; and
(b) fans
serving exhaust systems are located at the discharge end and are conveniently
accessible for service.
(2) The licensee shall ensure
(a) fresh air intakes are located as far as
possible from exhaust outlets of ventilating systems, combustion equipment
stacks, plumbing vents, or from areas that may collect vehicular exhaust or
other noxious fumes;
(b) furnace
rooms are provided with enough outdoor air to maintain equipment combustion
rates and to limit workstation temperatures to an effective temperature of 90
degrees F or 32.5 degrees C;
(c)
when the ambient outside air temperature is higher than 90 degrees F, the
maximum temperature does not exceed 97 degrees F or 36 degrees C;
(d) exhaust hoods in food preparation centers
are compliant with Rule R392, the Utah Department of Health and Human Services
Food Service Sanitation Regulations and hoods over cooking ranges are equipped
with grease filters;
(e)
non-resident as well as resident areas where specific requirements are not
given shall be ventilated in accordance with the recommended standards reviewed
in Section R432-4-12;
(f) air from areas with odor problems,
including toilet rooms, baths, soiled linen storage and housekeeping rooms,
shall be exhausted to the outside and not recirculated;
(g) Level II facility fans and dampers are
interconnected so that activation of dampers will automatically shut down
everything except exhaust fans;
(h)
supply and return systems are in ducts; and
(i) common returns using corridors or attic
spaces as plenums are not used.
