Utah Admin. Code R432-6-21 - Building Systems
(1) Facilities and
equipment shall be provided for the sanitary storage and treatment or disposal
of all categories of waste, including hazardous and infectious wastes if
applicable, using techniques acceptable to the State Department of
Environmental Quality, and the local health department having
jurisdiction.
(2) The following
engineering service and equipment shall be provided for effective service and
maintenance functions:
(a) rooms for
mechanical equipment or electrical equipment;
(b) a storage room for building maintenance
supplies;
(c) yard equipment and
supply storage areas located so that equipment may be moved directly to the
exterior of the building without passing through building rooms or
corridors;
(d) central storage for
supplies, equipment and miscellaneous storage in large and small facilities;
and
(e) in large facilities, a
separate maintenance room or office.
(3) In small and large facilities a
housekeeping room shall be located on each floor of the assisted living
facility. In large facilities this room shall have a floor receptor or service
sink. All housekeeping rooms shall be mechanically exhausted.
(4) Sound Control for large assisted living
facilities must be designed and constructed to meet the noise reduction
criteria as outlined in Table 1.

(a) Sound
transmission class shall be determined by tests in accordance with methods set
forth in ASTM Standard E 90 and ASTM Standard E 413. Where partitions do not
extend to the structure above, sound transmission through ceilings and
composite STC performance must be considered.
(b) Public space includes lobbies, dining
rooms, recreation rooms, treatment rooms, and similar space.
(c) Service areas include kitchens,
elevators, elevator machine rooms, laundries, garages, maintenance rooms,
boilers and mechanical equipment rooms, and similar spaces of high noise.
Mechanical equipment located on the same floor or above resident's rooms,
offices, and similarly occupied space shall be effectively isolated from the
floor.
(d) Recreation rooms,
exercise rooms, equipment rooms and similar spaces where impact noises may be
generated may not be located directly over residents' rooms.
