Utah Admin. Code R714-160-17 - Exhaust System
(1) The inspector
shall examine the vehicle's exhaust system and comply with the following
requirements:
(a) check the manifold, exhaust
or header pipe, mufflers, tail pipes, and the supporting hardware; and
(i) issue a rejection inspection certificate
when:
(A) the muffler is missing;
(B) the exhaust system has leaks of any kind
on any part of the system, excluding drain holes installed by the
manufacturer.
(C) any part of the
system is not securely fastened or is secured in a manner that is likely to
fail, such as using a rope to secure the tail pipe;
(D) the tail pipes do not extend beyond the
outer periphery of the passenger compartment, discharge at any point forward of
the passenger compartment, or are severely bent or broken;
(E) the exhaust system passes through any
occupant compartment;
(F) a muffler
cutout or similar device is installed on the vehicle;
(G) any part of the exhaust system that is
located or exposed in a manner that a person will likely be burned or injured;
or
(H) any part of the exhaust
system is located so that it would likely result in burning, charring, or
damaging the electrical wiring, the fuel supply, or any combustible part of the
motor vehicle.
