An employer is an individual (a person, company, or organization) that hires another individual (an employee ), pays the employee a salary or wage, and has the power to control the employee’s work duties; an individual who employs and supervises an employee. An employer hires an employee under an express or implied contract that gives the employer the right to dictate the employee’s work obligations.
