guardian of the person

Primary tabs

Guardian of the person is a type of guardianship where the guardian manages the personal affairs of the child, elderly person, or incapacitated individual such as medical needs, nutrition, rent, and transportation. Guardianship of the person is a serious legal avenue because the guardian may make some decisions against the wishes of the ward if it is in their interests, including controlling medical procedures or schooling decisions. This is in contrast with guardian of the estate where the guardian manages the financial affairs of the person but not the more intimate and extensive day-to-day affairs.
