1) A provision in a deed which creates a new right or interest for the grantor in the conveyed real property. For example, if a grantor is selling lots that have a private road traversing it, which the grantor wants to maintain access to, the deed might contain a reservation similar to the following: "grantor reserves to himself an easement of access to lots."
2) Lands under the jurisdiction of federally defined American Indian tribes. For example, 25 U.S.C. § 1452(d) defines “reservation” as including “Indian reservations, public domain Indian allotments, former Indian reservations in Oklahoma, and land held by incorporated Native groups, regional corporations, and village corporations under the provisions of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act [43 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.].”
