The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requires employers to give 12 weeks paid leave to covered employees having a child or due to a severe medical condition of the employee or a family member. Employees do not get paid, but they must be able to return to their job after the leave. To be eligible, employees must have worked for the employer for a year and worked 1,250 hours in the previous year. FMLA only applies to employers with at least 50 employees.
