Louisiana Revised Statutes § 23:342 Pregnancy Discrimination

Louisiana Revised Statutes § 23:342 prohibits discrimination against pregnant persons. Employers can not refuse to promote a pregnant person because of their pregnancy status, can not deny benefits on the basis of pregnancy, and in the case of organizations with reduced work for disabled persons, employers can not refuse to transfer a pregnant person to those reduced work positions.

Louisiana Revised Statutes § 14:87.9 Criminal Abortion by Means of Abortion-Inducing Drugs

Section 14:87.9 of Louisiana Revised Statutes declares it a crime to provide abortion-inducing drugs to pregnant persons. Additionally, it provides more severe penalties if the pregnant person is killed or seriously harmed as a result of the provided abortion-inducing medications. However, this statute states that a pregnant person themself can not be held criminally liable for inducing their own abortion under the text of the statute. This exception does not protect them from prosecution under other criminal statutes, nor does it protect third parties.
