Reproductive and Gender Affirming Health Care Freedom Act (N.M. HB 7)

The Reproductive and Gender Affirming Health Care Freedom Act (HB 7) was enacted in 2023 to amend Chapter 24 of New Mexico Statutes on Health and Safety. Chapter 24 governs statewide health, safety and medical services. The Act adds Article 34 and 35 to the Chapter to codify strong state-level protections for transgender and gender nonconforming people in the State. 

Elane Photography, LLC v. Willock, 2013-NMSC-040, 309 P.3d 53 (2013)

The plaintiff contacted Elane Photography, LLC (defendant) to photograph her commitment ceremony with her female partner. The defendant refused, explaining that same-sex commitment ceremonies conflicted with their personal beliefs. The plaintiff filed a complaint with the New Mexico Human Rights Bureau, who found the defendant to have discriminated against the plaintiff.
